Postpartum, Breastfeeding and Newborn Care Class
Welcoming your baby into the world is a time
of greatest beauty and love. It is also a time of greatest challenge
as you are in a constant state of learning about your baby, recovering
from birth, learning how to breastfeed, expanding the relationships
within your family, and coping with the intense emotions—all
on very little sleep!
We will discuss issues that are common for queer families during
the postpartum period, how to cope with them, and how to prepare
for the best possible transition for you.
You will also receive concrete tools for preparing
to parent a newborn baby, whether you are a single parent, partnered
or more. Understand what to expect from the first hours, days
and weeks after your baby is born, and receive guidelines for
creating a nurturing and healing time after birth. Be prepared
for helping your baby get a good latch from the very beginning,
how to avoid common breastfeeding difficulties, and know what
to do if challenges arise. Combining this class with MAIA’s
childbirth preparation class, you will be fully prepared for the
challenging and joyful time ahead.
