Childbirth Education for LGBTQ Families

MAIA’s Childbirth Education class is a one-of-a-kind, deeply moving experience. Both practical and experiential, this class is an experience not to be missed! Families come together in a positive and affirming space to prepare for labor and birth. Over the course of the weekend, queer issues such as conception stories, gender, and affirmation of the nonbiological parent are woven throughout the childbirth preparation material. Presented with a blend of lecture, group discussion, experiential learning, and inner exploration. MAIA’s class offers complete preparation for hospital, birth center or home birth. Specific topics addressed include: stages of labor, anatomy and physiology of birth, coping with labor, comfort measures, partner support, decision-making during labor, and what to expect in the hours after birth. Get the skills you need to cope with labor from a place of empowerment and trust. Community is created here! MAIA Childbirth Classes continue to meet for years to come. Combine one of our fertility classes with an individual consultation, and get the best of both worlds. Build on the general information presented in our classes with the personalized care uniquely tailored to you in our private consultations.

This economical option provides you with a total of three hours of MAIA expertise (two class hours and one hour in private consultation) for less than the cost of a 90 minute initial consultation.

This is not only a great deal, it is the best way we have found to give families the information that will help them conceive quickly and easily.

If you are not able to attend an in-person consultation on these dates, you may receive your consultation via telephone or online video conferencing.

MAIA Online Support Groups

Through our easy to use video conferencing program, MAIA is now able to offer support groups to clients from any computer with internet access and a video camera.

All support group sessions run for 3 months, meeting every other week for a total of 6 sessions (one hour per session). Cost is $60 per person for the 3 month session.

Single Prospective Parents Support Group

Creating a family as a solo parent can be both an empowering and a solitary experience. This group will bring together strong, amazing parents-to-be of all orientations to share hopes and fears, dreams and desires. Whether you are currently inseminating, in the process of adoption, or weighing your options for how to become a parent, this group is for you. Come join with others in the process of welcoming a child into their lives, and find a community of support with others on the same path. This group will be a familiar touch point as your journey unfolds.

Cost is $60 per 3 month session.

A Special Support Group for Queer Non-Bio Parents

This group takes an empowering look at the partner’s role in conception. We will explore the influence of sex and hormones, emotional realities of the non-conceiving partner, tangible ways to be directly involved in making your baby, relationship dynamics and extended family experiences. This group provides affirmation and validation for prospective parents living life beyond the biological.

Midwives Anti-Bias Peer Review Group (6 Month Session)

This group provides an opportunity for practicing midwives to access peer review online. All members are dedicated to undoing their own internalized and external biases as a part of their own personal growth as well as their continued development as midwives. Cases brought to this peer review forum may be specifically related to bias issues in client care or client experiences, however the peer review is not limited to such cases. This group is a safe space for midwives to assist one another in learning more about themselves and their clients, in addition to improving clinical care. Complete confidentiality is required.

Please commit to attending 6 meetings in order to build familiarity and cohesion in the group.
Meetings are held on the fourth Friday of every month, and they last about 90 minutes.
